Greetings Readers
And so it is on this 21st Day of December 2023 Winter Solstice ,the shortest day and the longest night.
This seasonal turn of the wheel is a favourite celebration. I do not get all excited that it’s the first official day of winter. Every Solstice I celebrate on the 21st of December but this year it started on the first day of December.
The thoughts swirled about for about a month before as to how i would embrace the solstice this year.
In late November I had a dream that was very clear in its meaning and a week before the dream another sign presented itself. All the fragments of a dream, diverse signs and physical pieces showed up and it was my job to bring it all together which very much speaks to my process of creativity.
Giving myself the time ,The 21 days Of Solstice was born ,the 21 days allowed me to acknowledge and celebrate solstice in creating an art piece over twenty days and showing it on the 21st day.
.I opened up to be led and shown what was needed inside and out throughout this time period
In the dream two aspects were shown to me An Owl and A Raven, which of course i questioned however confirmation/validation came that yes these air ones were to be. Using what i have on hand has always been a process for me which to this day i still have not fully embraced as i always see pieces way different then what they unfold to be. Using what I have on hand is a truth teller each and every time, again its all my creative process to an outcome.
Each and everyone who look upon this piece will see and feel it in their own way. The meaning of this piece is layered with many meanings for me. Spirituality interwoven with solidarity and womin centric ,embracing and celebrating my blackness in the African pattern, the winged ones and the messages they bring from afar, the owl and full moon, the raven with the pearls of wisdom, the third eye, the black Madonna and so on. Yes the meanings……..The name of this piece came within the dream.

This is so beautiful and how did I not notice the Owl the first time I looked at it! I did notice the Raven with the pearls right away.
I wonder if you have ever heard of the story Marion Woodman writes about – the time a woman loses her precious pearls and Mary/Goddess/Wise woman brings them back and thrusts them at her cautioning her not to be so careless with them again because she will not have the divine feminine’s help retrieving them. The Raven vignette in the midst of your larger piece reminds me of that story about valuing what is important. And of course, the idea of gifts from from birds too. Love. And Goddess is Alive Magic is Afoot is such a sacred chant!
